My 5-week blogging life!!!

I am not a person who are in fond of blogging but I do enjoy blogging very much in the past five weeks! I never treated as school work but I make it a new entertainment of mine. A blog can work as a history book of mine and it can also be a platform that allows discussions which eventually leads to inspiration. My 5-week blogging life reminds me what I have learnt and by sharing thoughts, it reinforced my memories of them. More is that, writing blogs about " My digital life" reminds me what digital media meant to me. Actually my first blog speaks my mind! Digital Media is an basics of my life, it changes my lifestyle and it brings along convenience. Without digital media I wouldn't be able to finish everything from my packed daily schedule; without it, I wouldn't be able to stay close to so many friends and relatives from every corner on earth. Without it, I am not sure how my lifestyle would be like!!!

I am not sure whether or not I'll make blogging a habit of mine but I am pretty sure digital media will be part of my life forever!!!

Wikipedia- Good or Bad?

Wikipedia is a website that allows massive user editing. I would say it is a dictionary of everything in the world, it gives definition to them and related materials will be shown together when you searched for people , things or whatever you want to know. I do find wiki a useful tool as it really help me out when I have no idea of what that thing or concept is about and who the person is. For instance, when doing my assignment, I wanted to find out what black and white film symbolised or why only black and white colour is used in those films, wiki could tell me it is about artistic or cost reduction. It not only tells me why but also whose thoughts were they from.

However, some scholars criticise wiki is not trustworthy as editors are of massive, whoever from the planet is allowed to edit the posts. Well, to a certain degree I do agree with it but what I find wiki good is not whether or not it is telling the correct things, but there is massive information for reference. No matter they are true or not, it do allow me to get myself familiar to the things I want to know. I won't trust every single word from wiki but I will make them useful by doing further research on what I got from wiki to confirm their accurancy. I guess no other place you can find so much knowledge about things around you.

Wiki is good because it is a convenient searching machine but not a truth telling machine. Good or bad? You know it!

Online lang: correct or not, it's my choice!

As today's online language, I'll try to use as much online language as possible, given that I m not a pro.

Speaking of online lang, it s never encouraged by lang teachers, coz they think students gonna mess up wiv their  assignments. However, it s often encouraged by online users or text users, coz it makes the conversation similar to or same as face 2 face causal talks, which makes the whole conversation more lively and real.

The teachers pt of not using online lang s tat students should hv a habit of writing correctly and grammatically so abbreviations n lang mixing r not encouraged. But my pt of view of being correct s not a habit, it s abt understanding. I would rather encourage them to use online lang during causal chats n correct n grammatical lang during class, coz they can figure out the diff n be more clear n familair wiv the correctness and wrongness. Of coz, if I were a teacher, I wont encourage students to use both online lang n grammatical lang until they learnt basics of the correct one. The basics refers to basic sentence structure (SVO), tense (timeline).

I m not sure if u agree wiv it, but I do!

LaYoUt Of A wEbPaGe

I have been using internet since I was a primary school student. I have browsed through thousands of webpages, however, I don't usually pay attention to the layout of a webpage until facebook changed it.

Everything is just so packed in the new timeline layout and they are trying to place everything in the centre of the webpage. I found it especially not reader friendly when one's has so many long posts. The previous lesson of Writing for New Media reminded me when I started noticing the importance of layout, the modality. 

At first, I thought the modality theory wasn't familiar to me as I didn't use it and it didn't sound useful. However, after a while, I realised that I have been using it since I was a kid, unconsciously. The reason is that as I have browsed through thousands of webpages, I started to have a concepts of how a webpage is designed and where does particular information appears in a webpage, then I could applied the concepts to new webpages I visited and find things I wanted to find. This is about layout of a webpage, that's MODALITY!!! I have been using it since I was a kid without knowing I can? OMG! what else have I been doing without knowing i can? I don't know...

My Digital Life

My daily digital life is simple, just youtube, online chats, email checking, articles reading and online shopping with my Mac and iPhone, that's it! Look, I can do all those things with just my Mac or iPhone, few clicks and fingerings, I can get all this done in a short while. Imagine digital media never exist, how am I suppose to get all those stuff done within 24 hours in such a timely packed and rushed city???

Writing hundreds letters to my friends a day to replace online chats? Going through libraries to look for favourable articles? Or shopping through the whole Hong Kong everyday? How many hours do I have left for sleeping and studying? I am sure I have no time for them! Even worse, I couldn't even finish off my daily tasks! How many hours do I need to get my current daily tasks done if digital media never exist!?
